With the temperature in the low 80s, today was the first day in weeks that Gram and I went out to the lake at Westminster Woods. I heard, and then spotted, a Belted Kingfisher. Gram and I watched an Anhinga fly in. There was a pair of Wood Ducks, plus a Snowy Egret, a Great Egret, and a Wood Stork–plus the raucous calls of Red-winged Blackbirds.
The birds have returned to our back yard! Last Friday I saw the first American Goldfinches of the season on the mixed seed feeder. On Sunday a Black-and-White Warbler was taking a bath in the bubbler. Today I spotted this Eastern Phoebe:
Stopped by Nathan Krestul Park on my way home from work. A Red-shouldered Hawk flew out of the trees far back in the swamp and made a bee-line south. This Tricolored Heron enjoyed its perch:
