On this, the first day of the year, the temperature in the mid 20s and the sky cloudy, we headed into the Bear Creek Greenbelt for a walk with the dog just before dawn. A raccoon was sleeping high a tree.
We saw over a dozen species of birds, including this song sparrow:
No rarities, although it’s still jarring to me to see American goldfinches in the middle of winter here.
On the walk back home we spied a coyote:
