If you’re wondering how I got the hummingbird shots . . . I balanced on a half-rotted stump for 25 minutes, staying as still as possible, while holding an eight-pound camera and lens rig, repeatedly checking that the camera was focused on the nest, as well as compensating for the fading light.

Bushtits are now roaming in flocks of a dozen or more again.  Here’s one in my backyard:

Hummingbird action has ticked up.

But perhaps the hummingbird that got hung up in the feeder yesterday (see video in 8/21/24 entry) is injured, even though it did end up flying off.  I’m not positive it’s the same hummer, but twice today I’ve seen a hummer slumped at the feeder.  Both times when I went out on to the deck, the hummer flew off, albeit slowly.
